Testa Kapa, a Vodka from the Napa Valley of the veteran “Dancing with the Stars” by Napa Valley, born in New York, debuted in New York this week in Hotspots like Elsie Rooftop, Fresco de Scotto and Avra.
Vodka is named after Chmerkovskiy’s favorite relative, Kapa. Tesya is Ukrainian for Aunt.
“He taught me how to drink and not drunk -me at the mature age of 10 or 11 years,” said Chmerkovsky. “We grew up with this culture, constant celebrations, pains, graduations, any type of meeting was held with vodka shots, for health. I grew up in this culture. I did not see a glass of wine until the 1920’s.”
The spirit will be available throughout the Tri-State area, including Brooklyn, where Chmerkovsky landed at the age of 14 with his family in 1994.
It will be distributed by “Dozortsev & Sons”, owned by Ukraine’s companion Arty Dozorttsev.
Chmerkovskiy started as a teen dancer in the famous Brighton Beach restaurants, such as Ucraina, who offered “Dinner and Show” to the former homemigrants. I would get a $ 20 to 25 show to perform with your partner, who would come to restaurants after studying in a local Yeshiva.
“That woke me up. I didn’t have to deliver newspapers, I could do something else,” said Chmerkovsky, who has since been a dancer and businessman.
After dancing in “Dwts” for 17 years, Chmerkovsky is now living with his wife, his partner “Dwts”, Peta Murgatroyd, and his three children, who are under five years old.
He co -founded the Vodka brand with Arthur Hartunian, founder of Napa Valley Distillery and Ian Dereux White in 2023.
Made without corn or sugar, using Sauvignon Blanc grapes, Telya Kapa Vodka took off with restaurants led by chefs in Napa, including Tique and Angele Restaurant & Bar.
“I am really excited to return and present the product in New York,” Chmerkovskiy said Side Dish. “As we celebrate it revolves around Vodka shots. We do not have to sell, all the people they have to do is taste it, because it is a lot of a handmade product that you can drink, like a high -end mezcal, so many restaurants love.”
Part of sales will also be used for charitable organizations that support Ukraine, including Baranova27, a charity that Chmerkovsky founded with his father to help rebuild houses west of Ukraine.
Chmerkovskiy was in Kievs judging a dance program when Russia launched his large -scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
“The region was never safe and while [Russia’s invasion] He shocked the world, did not hit us or anyone who knew history and the region. It should be expected, “said Chmerkovskiy.
Being in Kiev when Russia invaded “it was a hard experience,” said Chmerkovsky. “I made a lot of friends there and I have a lot of empathy for people in Ukraine. It was difficult to see.”
“Bryers,” he added, “We are a different guy, if you want it, and suddenly they were part of an army and went directly to the front line. I am not used to our kind talking about nothing but chas and sambas.”
Some dancers have become soldiers and have lost some of their limbs since. It also knows families on both sides of the border, and says that there is still so much “PTSD generally in the region” from Moscow -launched conflicts that go back to the Soviet Union War in Afghanistan in the 1980’s.
“It is unfortunate, very tragic. Ukraine is now treating and will have a whole generation that cannot forget, that is missing limbs,” said Chmerkovsky. “Everyone I know [in Ukraine] It is part of this army. It has been very difficult to see and everyone I know has nothing to do with this lifestyle, but he had to collect a weapon and be on the front line. It’s crazy. There is so much trauma. “”
